Aristides de Sousa Mendes was a Portuguese Diplomat who ignored and defied the orders of his own government for the safety of war refugees fleeing from invading German military forces in the early years of World War II. Between the June 16 and June 23 1940, he frantically issued Portuguese visas free of charge, to over 30,000 refugees seeking to escape the Nazi terror, 12,000 of whom were Jews.

Chiune Sugihara: (1900–1986) Japanese diplomat in Lithuania during World War II who defied government policy and issued as many visas as he could to save thousands of Jews fleeing annihilation by the Nazis.  In 1985, Israel honored him as Righteous Among the Nations for his actions, which is awarded to non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust. She was the thriving force behind the organized resistance movement "LO", an organization that offered help to Jews and men who were forced to work in Germany. They provided shelter, financial aid, false papers and food stamps. The military branch of the "LO" was the "LKP". Auntie Riek was born in Winterswijk, The Netherlands on May 26th, 1893 and killed in Ravensbrück on December 27th 1944.
