Beautiful sheer silk with a wrap front, low dropped sleeves and gathered lower bell sleeves...the textile is very sheer and the bodice is similar to others seen, but crosses and wraps.

- It's a square of fabric. A 45" square folded into a triangle will produce a shawl that is 64" on the folded edge. A 60" square of fabric will produce a shawl that is 85" on the diagonal. Add the inserted contrast bands and the shawl is even bigger.

From 1864 Journal des demoiselles Fold Over Shawl the bands are inset with overcast or feather stitched edges. The cross-over is done with center square and 2 ends with 2 more squares seams VERY carefully matched
