East of the Sun and West of the Moon- A Norwegian folk tale and another winter favorite! I was so impressed when my (at the time) 7- yr- old daughter pointed out to me that it was a basically a retelling of the myth of Cupid and Psyche! There is also a movie, 'The Polar Bear King' based on this story.

Tyr, Norse god of battle, who sacrificed his right hand that Odin might bind the chaos wolf Fenrir. For this selfless act, he was known among the Northmen as "The Wolf's Leavings", and regarded as the paragon of warrior courage and virtue. We still honor him once a week with "Tyrsdag" - known to us now as Tuesday.
