Located in the Kerman Province of Iran, the ancient fortified city of Bam (or Arg-e-Bam) dates back to the Parthian Empire, some 2000 years ago. Moulded out of the red clay of the Dasht-e Kavir desert, the city was permanently abandoned in 1932.

Howey, a citrus grower, developer, two-time gubernatorial candidate, and founder of Howey-in-the-Hills Florida. Howey's widow had lived here from the time her husband died in 1938 until 1981.
