Nijmegen is a war zone. Allied paratroopers on the Oranjesingel after a battle north of the river Waal.

Auschwitz I is the main camp in the Auschwitz complex of death camps. Different from the containment of concentration camps, death camps were meant to systematically and efficiently exterminate those housed in the camps. Auschwitz I served as the administration center for the complex, overseeing all work. Over 1.3 million people (90% Jewish) were killed in Auschwitz by the end of the war in hopes of ensuring the success of Hitler's Aryan race.
