Coat Date: 1890–1910 Culture: Albanian Medium: wool, metal, silk Dimensions: Length at CB: 39 in. The flared and fitted shaped of this sleeveless coat is achieved through piecing. The ornate couching includes carefully placed light and dark elements that create an overall shaded effect. The vestigial sleeves may have developed from a folk tradition of draping a coat over the shoulders.

Coat, part of the male fustanela costume, a costly article made of a single piece of material. It was worn, in combination with a long fustanela (pleated skirt), during the reign of King Othon (1833-1862) by court officials and members of the prosperous bourgeoisie. It is adorned with gold braid embroidery on red velvet. Mid 19th c.
