Moon Jelly - Aurelia aurita by Luis p: Named for their translucent bells, moon jellies are abundant in temperate and tropical waters worldwide. Although 95 percent water, they are the main course for leatherback sea turtles and other marine creatures. Thousands of animals die annually from mistakenly swallowing drifting plastic bags, which resemble the gelatinous jellies. http://www.sheddaquarium.org/moonjellies.html #Moon_Jelly

The Black Sea Nettle is a giant jelly with a distinctive purplish bell which can reach over three feet in diameter; its lacy and pinkish oral arms can reach nearly 20 feet and its stinging tentacles 25 feet or more in length. It provides the Pacific butterfish with food and protection. The silvery butterfish feeds on the plankton gathered by the jelly, and when danger approaches, the butterfish actually hides inside the jelly’s bell. montereybayaquarium.org #Sea_Nettle

The Narwhal: "a team of scientists from Harvard and the National Institute of Standards and Technology has now made a startling discovery: the tusk, it turns out, forms a sensory organ of exceptional size and sensitivity, making the living appendage one of the planet's most remarkable, and one that in some ways outdoes its own mythology. The find came when the team turned an electron microscope on the tusk's material and found new subtleties of dental anatomy. The close-ups showed that 10…
