After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066. The order was issued in response to a rumor that Japanese spies in the US were sending intelligence to the Japanese military; The order called for the mandatory removal of all Japanese people from California and imprisonment in US-military run concentration camps.
