Navy Special Warfare Operator Chief Petty Officer (SEAL) Stephen M. Mills  Died August 6, 2011 Serving During Operation Enduring Freedom  35, of Fort Worth, Texas; assigned to an East Coast-based SEAL team; died Aug. 6 in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when the CH-47 Chinook helicopter in which he was riding was shot down.

Hornsby  Died August 16, 2012 Serving During Operation Enduring Freedom  37, of Melbourne, Fla.; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment, 25th Combat Aviation Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; died Aug. 16 in a Black Hawk helicopter crash northeast of Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Navy CPO Robert J. Reeves, 32, of Shreveport, Louisiana. Died August 6, 2011, serving during Operation Enduring Freedom. Assigned to an East Coast-based SEAL team. Died of injuries sustained when the CH-47 Chinook helicopter he was in was hit by enemy fire and crashed in Wardak Province, Afghanistan. The helicopter was ferrying troops to assist Army Rangers engaged in a fierce firefight.

Petty Officer First Class Jason Workman, age 31, had served in the United States Navy for the past eight years. A member of the elite Seal Team Six. He was killed in a Chinook helicopter when it was brought down by enemy fire. In total, 38 men were killed in the accident. The helicopter was ferrying the group of Navy Seals to a firefight involving Taliban troops and U.S. Army Rangers. The helicopter was arriving in the area when it was hit. They were killed instantly. R.I.P.

Luttrell and three teammates from SEAL Team TEN were assigned to a reconnaissance mission, operation RED WING, in the Hindu-Kush mountain region of Afghanistan. Their objective was to gather intelligence on Taliban movement in the area. Luttrell’s team was eventually discovered and outnumbered by over 200 Taliban fighters. Petty Officer Luttrell was the only to survive enemy contact.
