De bibliotheek van San Lorenzo de El Escorial. Het Escorial is 13 hectare groot met meer dan 16 binnenpleinen, 1200 deuren, 2675 ramen, 4000 kamers, 16 kilometer gangen en maar liefst 86 trapzalen zijn in een gebouw gegoten naar het model van het rooster waarop de heilige Laurentius (San Lorenzo) geroosterd werd. Filips II liet het Escorial bouwen als laatste rustplaats voor zijn vader Karel V, en als plek waar hij zich kon terugtrekken en in gemeenschap van geestelijken kon bidden. (1994)
