Jacqueline Kennedy at the funeral of her husband President John F. Kennedy, Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, November 25, 1963

Unlike her composure during the late President’s funeral, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, broke down in tears in 1972 when she visited his grave, openly weeping in a way she never had at the time of the President’s funeral and burial nine years earlier. She ignored the photographers who snapped away at her which suggested it was proof that she still grieved more for her first husband than she loved her second husband.

November 22, 1963 was a warm sunny day in Dallas. Forecasters had predicted cooler weather, so Jackie Kennedy wore a Chanel wool suit. She would wear that suit until the wee hours of the next morning. After a stop in Fort Worth, they took a short plane ride to Love Field in Dallas. At 11:50 a.m. the motorcade left the airport on its rendevous with fate.
