The Ile de France, image tentatively dated 1948, in the midst of an ambitious wet-dock conversion back to a passenger vessel following War duties as a troop transport. Soon, the Ile will be restored as the flagship of the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique.  Note the now-salvaged Liberté – the former Europa of North German Lloyd – to the far right of the image, herself two years out from becoming the de facto flagship of the Line.
