A speeding star can be seen leaving an enormous trail in this image from NASA's Galaxy Evolution Explorer. Nothing like this stellar "tail" had even been seen before at the time the telescope spotted it. The tail stretches across 13 light-years of space.
Hubble's newest camera captured a pair of galaxies dancing, nicnamed "the mice" because of long tails of stars & gas. The pair will eventually merge into one galaxy. This image shows the most detail & stars ever seen in these galaxies.
This stunning false-colour picture shows off the many sides of the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A. Located light-years away, Cassiopeia A is the remnant of a once massive star that died in a violent supernova explosion 325 years ago.
