C-40 Aqua on 11-M A-Mix clay with three different mediums as stains: V-370 Velour Black, TP-1 Coal Black, and C-1 Obsidian (from left to right). The stains were created by applying one coat of each respective black staining medium and then using a damp sponge to wipe it off, only leaving the glaze in the valleys of the texture. Once the black was sponged away, we applied 3 coats of C-40 Aqua then fired the tiles to Cone 5. Each glaze or underglaze creates a slightly different effect.
