Boro textiles were made in the early 19th century by impoverished Japanese people. They are hand sewn from recycled indigo dyed cotton rags.   The fabric for this textiles piece was purchased in Kyoto, Japan. It is most probably sourced from old futon covers, kimonos, boro fabric and other traditional Japanese textiles. It dates between 1900's - 1940's.  This piece has been hand stitched from a variety of naturally dyed antique indigo cottons and katsuri (traditionally woven fabrics).  ...
