1924 - Bertha Lewis as Dame Carruthers in the Yeoman of the Guard.  Contralto Bertha Lewis was born in London on 12th May 1887 and died in Cambridge on 8th May 1931 from injuries from a car accident.  She made her debut with the D'Oyly Carte Company in 1906.  In May 1931 she was a passenger in Henry Lytton's motor-car when it crashed.   Lytton was injured but survived, Lewis was taken unconscious to a nursing home where she died four days later.
