F/L Marcus Robinson of No 602 Squadron RAF climbs into the cockpit of Spitfire Mk Ia LO-H at RAF Drem in April 1940. The aircraft was damaged by P/O Henry W Moody at the Scottish airfield on 23 July when it overshot and crashed into a hedge after several attempts to land in thick coastal fog. Robinson rose to acting squadron leader on 1 June 1940 becoming CO of No 616 Squadron RAF.

P/O Anthony C "Tony" Bartley of No 92 Squadron RAF claimed an Me 109 and an Me 110 destroyed over Dunkirk on 23 May 1940, 2 Me 110 fighters damaged on the following day and 4 He 111 bombers damaged on 2 June. During the evacuation of the BEF, he recorded another pilot of his squadron, who had been shot down into the sea, swimming out to a boat and being told by an RN sailor while boarding the vessel, "Get back! We're not picking you up, you bastards, we're only picking up the soldiers".
