B17 Tailgunner - I had two friends who Dad's were in B17's in WWII. One was a pilot, and one was a Tailgunner. Neither one off them talked about it much but both had flown at least twenty-five missions and survived.

American aviator, Amelia Earhart, was the first person to fly across the Pacific from Honolulu, Hawaii to Oakland, California, 11 Jan 1935. Attempting to fly around the world, on 01 Jun 1937, Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan, departed from Miami with great fanfare. She disappeared on 2 Jul 1937.

"A Gentleman's War" by Geoff Nutkins - The painting depicts Luftwaffe ace Hauptmann Rolf Pingel of I./JG26 falling victim to the guns of Pilot Officer Bob Doe of No.234 Squadron off the south coast of England during the Battle of Britain. Doe allowed Pingel to ditch his crippled Me109 in the English Channel, where he was eventually picked up by an E-Boat. Pingel survived the war, being taken prisoner on 10 July 1941. He died in 1970s. Wing Commander Bob Doe DSO DFC died on 21 February 2010.
