In 1812 the scientist Alexander von Humboldt called the more than 70 #volcanoes of Ecuador line the ¨Avenue of Volcanoes¨. They are located along 300 km, it is believed that 27 of these volcanoes are still active. The #Cotopaxi volcano, one of the best known for its beauty and its symmetrical cone, the Pichincha volcano in the foothills of the capital Quito, the Pululahua volcano near Quito, where people live in its giant crater, the volcano Cayambe where it crosses the equator.

The #Pululahua #volcano is located 20 km north of #Quito, on the equator. Unlike other volcanoes, the shape of Pululahua is not like a conical mountain, Pululahua is made up of several scattered lava domes, and a large crater of 3-4 km in diameter that lies between these lava domes. The highest elevation that the volcano has is Sincholagua in the northeastern part, with a height of 3356m. The last eruption of this volcano was 2300 years ago.
