Selma Kurz: |An 1895 photograph of soprano Selma Kurz as 'Mignon'.  She was born in Austria on 15th Oct 1874 and died there on 10th May 1933.  She made her début in the role of 'Mignon' in Ambroise Thomas's opera of that name on 12th May 1895 at the Stadttheater, Hamburg.

She made her debut during 1902 in Meyerbeer’s opera ‘Les Hugenotten’ in Dresden where she was leading soprano for 25 years. She made her Covent Garden debut in 1913 and her final performance came on 31st July 1927 as ‘Brunnhilde’ with her husband as ‘Wotan’. 1872 Albumen Photograph.  Soprano Pauline Lucca was born in Vienna on 25th April 1841 and died there on 28th Feb 1908 – as Baroness Wallhofen-Lucca.   She made her debut in 1859 as Elvira in Verdi’s Ernani and was leading soprano in Vienna [1874-1889] when she retired.  She had been engaged in Berlin in 1861 on the recommendation of the composer Meyerbeer, with whom she studied a number of roles. She made her Covent Garden debut in 1863
