CASTLES OF SPAIN -  Castillo de San Vicente de la Sonsierra, (La Rioja). Sancho VII de Navarra comenzó a construir el castillo y sus murallas en 1194. En 1367 se vio envuelta en la guerra entre Pedro I el Cruel y Enrique de Trastamara. Al final del conflicto la aldea quedó en manos navarras. Debido a la resistencia de los habitantes de la zona frente a las tropas de Enrique de Trastámara, Carlos II de Navarra concedió hidalguía a sus habitantes y a sus descendientes.

Spain - Castillo de Almansa, Albacete Castle of Almansa is situated at a frontier between several medieval kingdoms and was therefore an important border castle to the SW of Valencia. During the Reconquest this area was also a frontier between Christian kingdoms of Castile and Aragon and the Muslim kingdom of Murcia. Built by the Almohad dynasty in the early12th century quite a few remains of this original building survive in the present structure.

Sus huéspedes más ilustres fueron los reyes de Castilla, Juan I y su esposa la reina Leonor, el general bonapartista Hugo (padre de Victor Hugo, el escritor), o el duque de Wellington, durante la Guerra de la Independencia.
