This unusual plaited-straw helmet-shaped hat is very similar in both shape and ornament to contemporary steel military helmets. However, this highly decorative example was likely worn by a high-ranking official for festive peacetime occasions

Women's Shawl  c.1817  Shawl, woven silk and wool. Separate sewn on long border, silk fringe, made in either Norwich or Edinburgh. This handsome early shawl with a double border of 'cones' has separate sewn-on borers. It is a example of an expensive shawl, which both Norwich and Edinburgh were producing at that time and it is a fine imitation of an Indian shawl. Size: 129 x 268 cm
