In February 2008 I visited a restaurant next to Matzen Castle (Burg Matzen) and took this photo. The name Matzen goes back to a Roman military station called ‘Masciacum’. Today there is a fine castle hotel inside.

This castle called Liechtenstein was the original seat of that family which is the ruling house of the European state Liechtenstein now. The castle was destroyed during the Ottoman wars and rebuilt in the Century.

Liechtenstein has always been a dream destination of mine.  As a cild I developed a fascination for "postage stamp" counties like Monaco, Andorra, San Marino, Luxembourg, and this beautiful slice of the Alps.
