c. 1740-1770's QUILTED SILK PETTICOAT "It is light blue silk, hand-quilted with a design which includes carnations (or pinks). The quilted silk part is gathered onto a cotton waistband & the inner fabric is more coarsely woven. The waistband may be a later, Victorian alteration. It fastens with ties at the back & there is a slit in the side seam so this could be used with a separate, tie-on pocket."
