The C5A Galaxy, one of the most beautiful spiral galaxies there is out there.

Barred Spiral Galaxy NGC 1300 NGC 1300 is 61 million light-years away from earth in the constellation Eridanus. The galaxy is about light-years across which makes it just slightly larger than.

Jo Smeets of Itteren, the Netherlands, took the picture last night as the Moon was passing Venus en route to Mars. "The Earthshine really popped in this 5 second exposure with my Canon digital camera," says Smeets.

Cradled between the arms of the slender crescent is a display of light and shadow that puzzled sky watchers for thousands of years--until Leonardo da Vinci figured it out. It's the "Da Vinci glow," also known as Earthshine:

Galaxy NGC1300. NGC 1300 is a barred spiral galaxy about 61 million light-years away in the constellation Eridanus. The galaxy is about 110,000 light-years across (about 2/3 the size of the Milky Way). It is a member of the Eridanus Cluster, a cluster of 200 galaxies. In the core of the larger spiral structure of NGC 1300, the nucleus shows a "grand-design" spiral structure, a spiral within a spiral, that is about 3,300 light-years long.

NGC 6153 is a planetary nebula that is elliptical in shape, with an extremely rich network of loops and filaments, shown clearly in this Hubble image. However, this is not what makes this planetary nebula so interesting for astronomers. Measurements show that NGC 6153 contains large amounts of neon, argon, oxygen, carbon and chlorine — up to three times more than can be found in the Solar System. The nebula contains a whopping five times more nitrogen than the Sun!

A nitrogen-rich nebula - This NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope image shows a planetary nebula named NGC located about 4000 light-years away in the southern constellation of Scorpius (The Scorpion).
