Auguste Herbin (1882-1960)
Composition. Auguste Herbin 1882-1960 French Cubist and later abstract painter whose work forms a bridge between the Cubist movement and post-war geometrical abstract painting. The pure geometrical shapes and positive colours of his later abstract works had considerable influence on various younger abstract painters. Was also active in the 1950s as a designer of tapestries. Died in Paris. His paintings from the 30's seem to fit best into Orphism.
