NOT DEAD Posing stands were used to hold living subjects, usually children, still while the photo was taken.

Victorian photographic posing stand, used to help subjects stand still during long exposures. NOT used for post-mortem photos.  There is no way there is enough structure or means of support for the weight of a dead body.
