WINTER Clothes Sorting Center and Supporting Printables for Preschool

This is a set of winter clothes to categorize, geared towards pre-readers. Activities for small group, a center, and cut-and-paste and color the item printables. Click the PREVIEW link so see most pages. Instructions: Hold up each picture, and have the children name it. Place in the middle of the group on the table or floor as it is named. Do this until all clothing is named. Even though this activity is geared for pre-readers, I have labeled the clothes. Direct each child with a leading question to find an article of clothing, using various criteria, for example “Can you find a scarf?’ Can you find something green? Find something that you can wear on your head. Find something with stripes on it”. Tailor the questions to the knowledge and level of your group, and slowly make the questions more complicated. “Find something that covers your ears, and is pink”. Center – lay out the sorting mats you plan to use, and point out the pictures, so that the children understand how to do the sort. Explain what the words say. Show them that ALL the things in that category go on the mat, not just the one in the little picture clue. Printables – 2 cut and paste to match the item, and 2 color the item a specific color.
