Court coat | probably British | The Metropolitan Museum of Art
The elegance and grandeur of 1770s and 80s court dress is displayed in this court coat. The magnificent array and abundance of silver decorations used to adorn the jacket would have sparkled in flickering candlelight and indicated the status of the wearer who could afford such an expensive garment.
OMG that dress!

Other rank’s coat, 1st Foot Guards, c. 1773. Surviving uniforms from the 18th century are rare, and those of ordinary soldiers are even rarer. This is one of two identical uniform coats, held in the National Army Museum and the Snowshill Wade Costume Collection, the circumstances of whose creation and the reason for their preservation are unknown.(orig. pinner comment)
