B-24 Assembly Ships - as only the lead ships did navigation, the assembly ship's job was to be as visible as possible, so the other 24s could find it at take-off. They would then follow the lead ship to the target. The assembly ship was usually a plane deemed not combat-worthy and used only as a visual aid.. The De Schelde S.21 was a proposed Dutch fighter of the late 1930s and early 1940s. It was a single-seat, single-engined, pusher monoplane. A single prototype was under construction in 1940, but work was abandoned because of the German invasion.
