Jane Austen was an English novelist whose works of romantic fiction, set among the landed gentry, earned her a place as one of the most widely read writers in English literature. Austen lived her entire life as part of a close knit family and their steadfast support was critical to her development as a writer. In 1833 the first collected edition of Austen's works were published. Since then, her novels have been in continuous print.
