Lotte Sievers grew up in Northern Germany, in an area rich in farmland. Trained as a toymaker in Erzgebirge, Lotte learned a tradition of handcarving figures rather than turning them on a lathe. As she developed her signature style, she chose the nativity scene to be the set by which she would make her name in the carving world.
