Imported from Europe in the 19th century, Prussian blue expanded the expressive possibilities of Japanese printing, offering a hitherto unknown depth of color. Intense, uniform, lightfast: this is the color Hokusai chose for “The Great Wave.” The work depicts a stormy sea, two fishing boats at the mercy of the wave and, in the background, Mount Fuji. Sea and mountain share the same hue, creating a visual thread that unites movement and stability, near and far. The composition blends Eastern elements, such as the rendering of the characters and the design of the boats, with Western solutions, such as the use of perspective. And in the froth of the wave, mingling with the snowflakes on Mount Fuji, the balance between strength and lightness is played out.

Red ochre dominates some of the most iconic scenes in the Lascaux caves, one of the world's most important archaeological sites. The pigment's natural intensity made it ideal for tracing contours, shaping muscular forms and adding symbolic signs. Its presence suggests a conscious use of color to guide the eye and distinguish the sacred from the everyday. Still visible after more than 17,000 years, these traces remain a direct link to the visual intelligence of early humans. #Sicer #SicerSpa #italianceramicsurfaces #SicerCeramicSurfaces #ceramicsurfaces #ceramicdesign #tilework #italiantiles #tilesdesign #ceramicart #ceramicdecoration #ceramicofitaly #ceramicsofitaly #colorificioceramico #OpenDays #SicerItalia
