Hellen Keller got the fist Akita into the United States and named it Kamikaze-go. The dog was gifted to her during her trip to the Akita Prefecture. The dog died in 1935 and in 1938, Hellen Keller got another Akita from the Japanese government. It was especially after World War II that several more Akita dogs came into America, brought by the American servicemen.
