A Windmill on a Polder Waterway, Known as ‘In the Month of July’, Paul Joseph Constantin Gabriël, c. 1889 oil on canvas, h 102cm × w 66cm × d 14cm The artist seems to have blurred the fact that windmill is old and falling apart. I think the artist wanted this piece to be romantic. I can imagine the man coming home after being away for a long time.

Italian Landscape with Umbrella Pines, Hendrik Voogd, 1807 oil on canvas, h 101.5cm × w 138.5cm The artist seems to have changed the image to make it romantic. The trees seem larger than life and the light shining through has a romantic sense about it.

ARTHUR G. DOVE (1880–1946) Red Sun, 1935 Oil on canvas 20 1/4 x 28 in The artist definitely changed this image. I think he wanted to simplify it to make the sum seem larger than life or very important.

AUGUSTUS VINCENT TACK Windswept (Snow Picture, Leyden), circa 1900-1902 Oil on canvas 31 1/8 x 36 1/4 in I think the artist changed the image of snow that could have been very beautiful to show it as barren or less than life.

Lighthouse in Breaking Waves, Hendrik Willem Mesdag, c. 1900 - c. 1907 oil on panel, h 52cm × w 40cm The artist appears to have changed this painting to seem like all of the waves are directed right at the lighthouse. It seems like he wanted to show the end the lighthouse or maybe the end of life as it was. On the other hand, he could have been romanticizing the light house and wanting to show that it could stand up to anything.

Landscape with Waterfall, Jacob Isaacksz. van Ruisdael, c. 1668 oil on canvas, h 142.5cm × w 196cm On display in Eregalerij While this image seems kind of dreary with the two treas down, I think the artist wanted to portray the image as romantic or peaceful. I can almost hear the water running.

Night in Qaanaaq (Greenland) Sebastian Copeland 2010, Greenland36.7"x55", photo I feel this piece was not changed by the artist. I think he is portraying the image as sad due to global warming.

Meadow Landscape with Cattle, Willem Roelofs (I), c. 1880 oil on panel, h 49.2cm × w 77.3cm The artist may have changed this image to allow the sky and land to run together. It seems almost like we are looking down on the cattle but the distance seems off. I think maybe he wanted the make it seem not as open or lonely as it really was.

Zicht over de rivier en de botanische tuinen van peradinya in Kandy, anonymous (possibly), c. 1890 - c. 1910 gelatin silver print, h 280mm × w 200mm Nederlands-Indië en de reis daarnaartoe The artist seems to have removed the color you would expect to see in a picture like this. I think they wanted to down play the beauty and present it as sad.

The Three Droves, Nicolaes Pietersz. Berchem, 1656 oil on panel, h 44cm × w 66.5cm The artist seems to want the hill to shine or stick out over the rest of the painting. The hill seems very important, larger than life and possibly with a religious meaning. I seems the group of people are heading towards an important moment in life.
