Thousands of websites are quietly fighting ad blocking
Websites aren't always conspicuous in their attempts to combat ad blockers. Researchers from the University of Iowa and UC Riverside have learned that 30.5 percent of the top 10,000 websites have measures to thwart ad blocking, and they're frequently using methods you wouldn't likely notice. Many use scripts to introduce 'bait' content that sets off ad blockers, prompting the site to relaunch ads in a way that blockers might not catch.
Black and white photo from an aerial view of Malleable Iron Factory, Oshawa. In 1871, Oshawa gave the Ontario Malleable Iron Co. Ltd. an incentive to open a factory in the area. This decision proved to be a valuable one, as the establishment of the iron works assisted in the industrial growth of the town. Jas. and W.F. Cowan opened the works in 1873. After a large fire in 1894 the plant was almost completely rebuilt (1898) and the company changed hands.
In Oshawa,Ontario on Ritson Rd. just north of Winchester Rd., past the hydro lines is a quaint little village. In the 1800's this was called "Chubtown". The hamlet was named after an English immigrant. The hamlet had a tannery and sawmill, a post office, a butcher and about 7 homes and 5 farms. Bone remains of animals were found recently in a field near where the local butcher once lived. An old barn foundation on the property where the sawmill once was has been turned into a garden.
