Dutch No.18 (NEI) Squadron B-25 Mitchell bombers flying from Batchelor Airfield in 1944, on the way to attack Japanese harbors, shipping lines and occasionally, submarines. One of the prominent pilots of that No. 18 Squadron, was Lt. Ben Wetters, the father of my lifetime friend Ben. In 1942, Lt. Wetters had departed to California with another Dutch pilot for making the ferry flight of their first B-25 to Canberra, Australia, where Dutch pilots were further trained on the type.
