Real Life Math
Real life math, 3 act math,
This in-class project provides students with a fun way to put their fraction, decimal and equation writing/solving skills to work in a fun, real world scenario. Students will be able to apply what they know about fraction and decimal operations, as well as writing and solving inequalities and equations to operating a cupcake shop.
Many students probably can't imagine a world without math until they read this interesting passage about a real life village that lives completely math-free. After reading the interesting passage, they will answer thought-provoking follow-up questions relating to the passage and how math impacts their own life. $
This activity is designed for students to complete after learning about solving systems of linear equations. The activity gives students a real-life perspective on systems of equations by using the motivation that only candy can provide. Students will receive a paper bag (stapled closed) filled with a combination of regular and peanut M&M's.
