FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE~ Make colorful copies of the paintbrush patterns and store them near your class library, along with containers labeled with the different types of figurative language on which you wish students to focus while reading. Challenge each child to find examples of idioms, similes, metaphors, personification, and hyperbole as she reads. Each time she finds an example, have her fill in a shape, cut it out, and place it in the appropriate container.
