The red seeds of Coral Bean (Erythrina herbacea) remain nestled in their open pod in the back yard of our vacation rental near Pawleys Island. They are toxic to humans, and since they have persisted into the late Winter it seems likely that there are no animals there that eat them.

Isa Trip Croydon Dam Kapok Tree Pod (Open to full size - it is lovely) Cochlospermum gillivraei
These native kapok trees were growing in the vicinity of the Croydon dam and were just beginning to open up their seed pods when we were there. They looked spectacular hanging from the trees. In this one you can see it just beginning to open at the base. They are rich colours. Temperature was about 42 C (shade temperature) and everything was crisp. Kapok is like a native, wild cotton.
